Rumor has it we may be seeing some more snow this Friday. I can only be super thankful that I'm not closing this time around, because quite frankly I had enough of closing in the snow last Thursday.
I don't know much about the driving conditions the night of the "snowpocalypse", just that all of my closing sales floor team called out because of the weather and those of us who had come in prior to the chaos were stuck at work until 11 because unlike every other place in Knoxville, Target operates a lot like the post office.
What I do know is that by the time D, J, and I made it out to our cars the snow had stopped, but the freezing had most certainly begun. First my driver's side door handle was frozen. Then it popped, but still wouldn't open. Before you ask, I did let D have a go at it too, so I wasn't just a comically desperate mess stranded in the Target parking lot at 1130p.
So, like any smart hatchback owner, I crawled through the trunk to try and pop open the car door from the inside. No dice. As I tried retreat from whence I came I realized the hydraulic arms on my trunk had once again given out. I was trapped in my car with no way out and only the very lucky coincidence that D was still trying to get his car drivable and was able to free me from my yellow checkerboard cage.
Half an hour later our windows were de-iced enough to drive and I made my way into the driver's seat through the now cooperative passenger side door. I knew better than to attempt to get to my house as the only way there is up rather steep hills from every direction; as it turns out this may have been the best decision I made all night.
By the time I made it to M's house and awkwardly scrambled toward the passenger side door I came to the now hilarious realization that my passenger side door had re-frozen and I was now quite literally frozen inside my car. Trapped. But wait! I'd made the brilliant executive decision to go to his house instead of my own, I had someone to call to come rescue me.
From the trunk of my car…
Again.
So no, I didn't make it to work in the morning for the team lead meeting that I was most assuredly supposed to be attending, but let's face it:
Sometimes you can call in because you're unable to get into your frozen car...and sometimes you have to suck it up and admit your car is holding you hostage in a frozen prison.
